With the arrival
of Spring, we usually think about spring cleaning our homes. The warmer weather
allows us to open the windows and let the fresh air in and the stale air
out. Yet we often forget that our
bodies need a “spring clean”, too.
Over the years,
we accumulate toxins in our body from the air we breathe (pollution), the food
we eat (pesticides and artificial additives), the water we drink (artificial
fluoride and other chemicals), and from various products that we use daily for
personal hygiene that can pass into our bloodstream. There is no escaping the fact that we live in a toxic world and a
significant amount of those toxins are able to pass into the body where some
will remain.
Thankfully, our
body has a number of systems or organs to help us eliminate many of these
toxins. Our lungs breathe out toxic
gases; our kidneys purify the blood and eliminate toxins in the urine; our
skin, which is regarded as a third kidney, allows toxins to be released through
the pores; and our digestive system processes our food and eliminates
toxins. In fact, our digestive system
can be quite efficient when we have eaten something that is contaminated. We either vomit it up or pass it out as
quickly as possible as a watery stool, or diarrhoea. Also our lymphatic system plays an essential role in dealing with
toxins. This system relies on the
movement of our body to transport toxins in the lymph where they can be
detoxified. Some people call the
lymphatic system our “garbage disposal” system and if we do not exercise
enough, the system becomes sluggish and toxins build up. Probably our most important organ for
detoxification is the liver which processes poisons and makes them safe.
Today, even with
these efficient systems and organs, our body struggles to cope with the huge
rise in toxic exposure that we now have.
Biologically, our body is the same as it was 10,000 plus years ago but
people who lived then had little exposure to toxic substances. Even 4000 years ago toxins were rare as
shown in a body cell of a mummy from that time, but now over 500 different
toxins can be identified in a single human cell, today. These past 200 years, since the Industrial
Revolution, has seen an increase in toxins released into our world and even
more so since World War Two. There are
estimated to be between 70,000 and 100,000 chemicals in existence and that
figure rises year on year. Not all
chemicals are toxic but a large proportion are and there are many which have
never even been tested for human safety.
The effect of
this toxic build-up over the years manifests in a variety of health
problems. Common symptoms are feeling
tired all the time (TATT), frequent colds, poor sleep, allergic conditions,
poor concentration and skin disorders to name just a few. These can lead to
more serious conditions such as heart disease and cancer.
If you want to
avoid many of the symptoms and chronic diseases of toxic build-up in your body,
then there are a few steps you need to take.
Undergo a Detox
There are several
programmes from which to choose, ranging from 2 days to 28 days or more eg
Carol Vorderman’s “Detox for Life”.
Have a browse through some books in the library or in your local
bookshop, or take a look at some of the suggestions on the internet. Detox diets based on fruits, vegetables and
water are an easy, quick and safe way to detox your body.
An example of a
2-day detox programme which is best done over a weekend is to eat only
vegetables eg a salad, and fruits (not at the same time as vegetables as they
do not combine well) and preferably organic.
Drink at least two litres of fresh water and fruit or vegetable
juices. If your water is fluoridated,
only drink still water at room temperature from a glass bottle - water in
plastic bottles is usually contaminated with chemicals that leach from the
plastic. Artificial fluoride is highly
toxic and if you drink two litres each day, you will be overdosing on the
recommended amount, therefore adding to your toxic load - we retain 50% of the
fluoride we ingest.
Whilst undergoing
a detox, avoid using any personal care product which has chemicals that pass
through your skin eg sodium lauryl sulphate, sodium laureth sulphate, propylene
glycol, TEA etc (see http://www.healthychoices.ukhq.co.uk/Toxins.html).
If you use household cleaners, either wear waterproof gloves or use toxin-free
versions such as those supplied by Neways. It is
pointless undergoing a detox if you continue to overload your body with more
toxins during this process. If you are
unwilling to change, then only use water for personal hygiene during this time
– no toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo etc.
During a detox,
you should expect some side effects which will prove that the cleansing process
is working. They can be in the form of headaches,
a runny nose, spots or rashes, mild diarrhoea, mild depression, mild
constipation, mood swings, feeling cold, body odour or bad breath. These symptoms usually only last for a day
or two and if you are drinking plenty of water, they may be less evident.
There are
nutritional products from Neways that may assist your body in detoxing, too. These are:
Puri Tea – this contains a blend of herbs in a tea bag. It can be taken as a herbal tea or cooled
and added to fruit juice. The herbs
help to break down the mucoidal plaque that often lines the intestines of
people who eat a lot of refined, “white” foods eg white flour, white bread,
white pasta, white sugar, white rice etc.
The herbs also increase peristaltic action so you should not go out when
using this product as you will need to be near a toilet! Do not use if you have Inflammatory Bowel
Disease.
ParaFree – this product should be taken for 25 days, then have a break for five
days and continued for a further 25 days.
A large number of people unknowingly have parasites in their intestines
brought in by poor quality or undercooked food. ParaFree helps to rid the body of most parasites very
gently. The break of five days allows
any eggs that may still be present to hatch so that the second dose of ParaFree
will kill those remaining parasites.
Feelin’ Good – this is a great product to take for a detox as it
helps to add bulk to your stool which aids elimination of toxins. Used with ParaFree, it removes parasites
more efficiently, too.
Maximol – when your body is going through a detox it needs to be supported with
a good supply of minerals, vitamins, amino acids and enzymes. Maximol provides all of these. If you have been taking Maximol for over
three months and have not noticed any benefit, or you have been taking it for
some time but are no longer getting the same level of health that you had
achieved, this is a sure sign that your body needs to detox. Once you have completed your detox programme
you should start to feel the benefits of Maximol.
For a gentler but
longer detox, there are products that help your body to detox at the cellular
level. These are:
Noni Juice – which contains a blend of juices including that of the prized Noni
fruit, revered in Hawaii for centuries for its ability to balance the body. The nutrients in Noni help to boost the
immune system.
New Vera – which contains aloe vera juice known to clean the cell membranes to
help nutrients pass into the cells.
Revenol – a powerful antioxidant combination which scavenges free radicals that
cause damage in the body. Revenol binds
to toxins in the water and fat soluble parts of the cell so they can be easily
eliminated.
EFA Recovery Plus – contains Omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids
which help nutrients pass into the cell which would normally be very difficult
in a toxic body.
Once you have
completed your detox, you will hopefully be feeling an improvement in your health,
especially if you have been on a longer term detox. Your skin should be clearer, your eyes brighter and you should
have noticeably more energy. However,
returning to your pre-detox lifestyle will soon result in the old symptoms
returning, so when you make the decision to detox, you need to be prepared to
make a few changes for maximum benefit.
Here are a few
suggestions, some of which have already been mentioned.
1. Reduce
your chemical load by using non-toxic toiletries and household cleaning
products. See http://www.healthychoices.ukhq.co.uk/UKStore
or http://www.healthychoices.ukhq.co.uk/EuroStore
2. Drink
at least 8 glasses (2 litres) of pure, non-fluoridated water, daily (see www.npwa.freeserve.co.uk to see what fluoride does to your body)
3. Perform
fairly vigorous exercise for 30 minutes at least five times a week
4. Do
not smoke, and avoid passive smoking
5. Drink
no more than 14 units of alcohol (women) and 21 units (men) a week and never
more than 3 units in one day. One unit = a small glass of wine, ½ pint
beer/cider or 1 pub measure of spirits.
6. Avoid
food containing hydrogenated fat and vegetable oils, except olive oil (Extra
Virgin is best). Saturated fat as in
butter, cream, meat and coconut oil is much better for you, particularly from
an organic source, contrary to the misguided beliefs of many people! (see www.mercola.com/2002/aug/24/saturated_fat3.htm )
7. Eat
at least 5, but preferably 8 -10portions of fruit and vegetables daily (organic
is best). Fruit is ideal at breakfast
or between meals – avoid eating fruit as part of a main meal (Read the book
“Food for Thought” by Phillip Day available at www.credence.org
8. Take
Maximol and Revenol each day to make up the shortfall in
nutrients in our food. Even organic
food has less nutrients than 100 years ago.
These suggestions
may not all be practical to fit in with family life but you may be able to
follow some and even a small change will be beneficial to your body. It is wise to detox regularly, at least once
a year, no matter how toxin-free your lifestyle becomes. Our bodies can never be totally free of
toxins because of our environment but at least we can reduce our exposure and
the less toxic we are, the less likely we are to contract the degenerative
diseases so prevalent in our world today.
Healthy Choices has just introduced a new screening service which
can detect the amount of toxic metals and minerals in your body through a hair tissue
mineral analysis. This is based on
sound science and is a simple and non-invasive method, requiring a few strands
of hair. If you would like to know your
mineral status and toxic metal accumulation e-mail screening@healthychoices.co.uk
for information. The test costs £40/€60
and can be sent by mail order.

Special Offers for a great
saving on three of our detox products.

Colon
cancer link to white bread?
Scientists in Oxford who followed
11,000 men and women for 17 years have shown that those who ate more than 15
slices of white bread per week had twice the risk of colorectal cancer.
Whilst this may be in some way due
to refined carbohydrate (malted brown bread could be just as damaging),
the findings may occur because people who eat lots of white bread have poorer
diets anyway. The scientists also found that there was no link to meat
consumption, even though vegetarians were less likely to develop the disease.

Have a laugh
A hearty
laugh a day may keep the doctor away, say the findings of a unique study. They
measured the affect of watching a funny movie on the ability of participants’ heart blood vessels to expand. And they found some
surprising results - laughing increased blood flow as much as a 15- to
30-minute workout.
In the
study, 20 healthy men and women watched clips of two movies - a violent battle
scene from "Saving Private Ryan" or a humorous scene from a comedy
such as "Kingpin." Each participant's vasodilation was measured prior
to the movie and again afterward.
The
results were "dramatic." Of the 20 participants who saw the stressful
film, 14 had significantly reduced blood flow. However, after watching the
funny film, 19 of the 20 volunteers had significantly increased blood flow.
Past
studies have found that stress hormones like adrenalin and cortisol, which are
released when a person is stressed, may harm the body by suppressing the immune
system and constricting blood vessels. On the other hand, the researchers
believe laughing causes the body to release beneficial chemicals called
endorphins, which may counteract the effects of stress hormones and cause blood
vessels to dilate.

Waist size
and diabetes
A study in
the US has found that a man's waist size is a better predictor of his risk for
type 2 diabetes than the commonly used body mass index (BMI) tool.
Researchers
divided patients into five groups based on waist size. Compared to men in the
smallest range (29-34 inches), here's how a man's risk of diabetes rose as his
waist expanded (assessed using waist circumference and waist-hip ratio):

Sports
drinks can dissolve teeth
Sports
drinks can dissolve tooth enamel and are generally up to 30 times more
corrosive to teeth than water, according to a British study.
Sports
drinks have high acidity levels to extend their shelf life, as do soft drinks.
That can be problematic for a sweaty athlete with a dry mouth that can't
produce enough saliva to regulate and protect the body from the acidity. And,
if you think fruit juices are better alternatives, similar corrosive problems
have been found with them too.
Besides,
soft drinks, energy drinks and fruit drinks are tainted with sugar, whether
it's fruit juices that contain as much as 8 teaspoons of fructose, energy
drinks (including some with up to 80 mgs of caffeine) or soft drinks loaded
with artificial sweeteners like aspartame.
The best
and only thing you should be drinking is clean, fresh water.

believe you may find interesting and useful.
Here are 3 sites:
Alliance
for Natural Health Press Release 5th March 2005
http://www.alliance-natural-health.org/index.cfm?action=news&ID=151
If
you have been following Dr Rob Verkerk’s court action against the EU Directive
on supplements due to come into force in August, you will be delighted to hear
that the Advocate General finds the Food Supplements Directive invalid. The final say will be announced in June by
the EC judges but it is rare for them to go against the recommendations of the
Advocate General. See the Press Release
for full details.
If any of you have been following celebrity chef, Jamie
Oliver’s efforts to revolutionise school dinners, you can find out all about it
on this website. It has certainly
stirred things up in our household and we’re making a special effort to get rid
of the junk. Who wants to eat chicken nuggets ever again? Yuck!!
National
Pure Water Association
http://www.npwa.freeserve.co.uk/fluoride.html
On
April 1st the ball started rolling for the whole of the UK to be
fluoridated. This will take place after
local consultations but these meetings organised by the Strategic Health
Authorities are being kept very quiet to prevent the public from finding out
about them. This move to mass medicate
everyone to prevent “tooth decay” in children who do not brush their teeth is
absolute madness and any MP who voted for this could never have read about the
overwhelming evidence of the toxicity of the chemical they use to fluoridate
the water. To see a powerpoint
presentation about this toxic waste product, visit the National Pure Water
Association’s website and if your water is not already fluoridated, phone your
Strategic Health Authority to find out when the consultation meeting will be
held. Your future health depends on it.

Many of our regular
customers at Healthy Choices have chosen to open a
direct account with Neways International to save up to 30% off
the recommended retail prices. This not only saves money but also provides an
option to build a business by recommending the products to others.
The vast majority of
people who now run Neways as a business, including myself,
started off by opening a direct account to make savings on the products. As the benefits of the products become
apparent, it’s hard not to recommend the products to others,
especially knowing how safe they are compared with many available in the
supermarket.
When others purchase
them, too, you can earn a commission, direct from Neways on
everything they order, which helps to cover the cost of your own products. If those people then choose to open a direct
account and recommend the products to others, there is an even greater
opportunity to earn more in commission payments.
If you would be
interested in setting up your own business recommending the Neways
range of products, take a look at http://www.healthychoices.ukhq.co.uk/Business
. We also have a new DVD to offer anyone who may be interested which explains
about the opportunity and the need to change to Neways’
toxin-free products. To ask for the DVD
send an e-mail to info@healthychoices.co.uk
with your contact details.
If you aren't
interested, yourself, there may be someone you know who would really
appreciate hearing about this, so please pass the web address on to them.
